Swedish massage combines various hands-on techniques, including gliding, kneading, and cross-fiber friction to break up muscle knots called adhesions. One of the goals of Swedish massage is to relax the entire body. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. If the massage is done correctly, however, you should feel better than ever within a day or two.
Trigger Point Massage
Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. When a trigger point is found, the only way to get rid of it is through direct pressure onto the trigger point itself. This takes the pain away from the remote site where the original pain was felt, and puts all of it, amplified, onto the one spot where the trigger point exists.
Sports massage is the specific application of massage techniques, hydrotherapy protocols, range of motion/flexibility protocol and strength-training principles utilized to achieve a specific goal when treating an athlete.
Expectant Mother Massage
Prenatal Massage achieves the same goals as a regular massage. It aims to relax and aide in easing sore or tense muscles. A pre-natal massage, however, is tailored to specifically fit the needs of a pregnant woman. Constant body changes during pregnancy create some discomforts. A prenatal massage can help relieve discomforts, including lower back pain.
